Rick de Zwart is an Amsterdam-based graphic designer who has run his own practice, Meneer de Zwart, since 2008. He works across brand identity, packaging and apparel graphics, with a focus on typography and visual systems. In 2011 he co-founded Rare Fruits Council with Sietze Kalkwijk, a multi-disciplinary agency where graphic design, product design and concept development work together. Before going independent he worked at branding and packaging design agencies, and has worked with fashion brands on apparel graphics for over fifteen years.
Most projects begin with the question of where a product comes from: its origin, the tradition it belongs to, the reason it exists. The design follows from there, looking for the one idea that can carry the whole and building a system around it that holds on a can, a label or a shopfront.
